The Reality of Building MMH

MMH was not built by a tech company, and it was not started with corporate funding.

Built From Absolute Zero

It began on a second-hand laptop, built by one person starting again from very little.

After experiencing addiction, homelessness, and recovery, I saw how hard it can be to find clear support options when life has already become overwhelming. MMH was built to make that search easier by bringing information, external services, peer-support groups, and public resources into one place.

The Cost of Free

Using MMH’s signposting platform is free. Listing a public-facing group is free. That is how it should stay.

Keeping the Platform Running

Keeping a secure, accessible website and national directory online still comes with real costs, including hosting, security, updates, content work, and directory maintenance.

MMH is built around a simple aim: keep the signposting work visible, useful, and free to access while finding sustainable ways to support the wider MMH ecosystem.

The Signposting Comes First

The group directory is free to use and free to submit to. If you are looking for peer-support groups, local meet-ups, or online options, the directory is open.

How MMH Is Sustained

MMH Men’s Mental Health CIC is a Community Interest Company focused on non-clinical information, awareness, and signposting. The CIC exists for community benefit and does not operate the support directory as a paid placement platform.

Keeping the signposting platform independent

MMH Clothing Ltd is separate from the CIC. It operates the clothing side of the MMH brand, which came after the signposting platform as a separate way to build awareness and help support the wider MMH ecosystem.

  • Website Costs: Helping keep the platform online, maintained, secure, and accessible.
  • Directory Maintenance: Reviewing public-facing group information and keeping listings as accurate as possible.
  • Content Work: Creating clear, plain-English information that helps men understand common issues and explore external support options.

Wearing the Message

You might wonder why clothing exists alongside MMH’s signposting work. The answer is simple: expression.

Expression and Integrity

During recovery, I needed a way to get thoughts out of my head. One of the first designs was “Don’t Man Up, Speak Up.” It was not created as a product at first. It was a personal reminder.

Over time, the clothing side became a way to carry that message in public. A T-shirt cannot fix anything on its own, but it can start a conversation, show quiet solidarity, or remind someone that talking about what is going on should not be seen as weakness.

Support the Platform

Buying from MMH Clothing is one optional way to support the wider MMH brand. Where MMH Clothing supports MMH CIC, this is handled separately and transparently.

You will be taken to mmh.clothing, operated separately by MMH Clothing Ltd.
